December Special Events

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

On Saturday, December 15, 2012, our Pack will ring bells in front of Kroger at 9501 Westport Road Louisville KY 40241. Our shift as a pack will be from 2 to 4PM. Please sign up online at the following link for a 30 minute slot:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FAEAE2FA20-salvation

I have listed 4 needed for each spot; that is usually a pretty good number. If we have a lot of demand and fill up, let me know. I can sign us up for another shift.

We've all walked past the red kettle's during this time of the year. This is great experience for the boys, I encourage you to sign up for a shift.

Pinewood Derby Make-It/Take-It

The Make-it/Take-it for the Pinewood Derby will be Saturday, December 15, 2012, from 9AM to Noon at St. Albert. This is a chance for parents and scouts to work on their Pinewood Derby cars. We will have everything they need to complete the car short of painting (including saws, drills, and weights). If you don't have tools or experience, this is a great chance to get advice and time to build the car.

I need volunteers to help with this. Please click the following link to setup. Need help setting up and from 9:00 to 10:30AM, and 10:30AM to Noon, and cleanup. Even if you can't help for an entire shift, let me know. Please consider volunteering, whether you are a new to the pinewood derby or an experienced car maker.

Spring Camp Out

Our Spring Camp Out is this weekend. The weather looks like it will be warm, sunny, and no rain. Couldn't ask for a better weekend!

Here are the specifics:

Dates: You can camp out Friday and/or Saturday (May 18 and 19). I am going to plan on being there on Friday and Saturday night. If you can't camp out, feel free to come up for the day on Saturday.

Location: Sycamore Springs (717 West Tunnel Hill Rd. English, Indiana 47118). Directions below. It is about an hour drive down I-64 going West. It's well worth the drive.

What to Bring: Tents, sleeping bags, food, and everything else you will need for a weekend in the woods. If this is your first time camping, or just been a while, and you have questions, let me know. Please remember that BSA rules require that the only adults in a tent with kids are the parents/guardians of those kids.

There is a big open field, so bring soccer balls, kick balls, footballs, etc. There is also a fishing pond.  I've not fished in it, so I'm not sure how good the fishing is. You can bring a pole, if you are interested in trying it out.

There will be potable water near by and port-a-potties. There are showers and regular restrooms also available.

There is plenty of fire wood stacked up and ready. No need to bring your own. There will be a couple of fires.

Activities: Fun in the outdoors. There will be plenty of space for the boys to run around and play in. There are also several playgrounds around as well. Brothers and sisters are welcome as well. For the older boys, Mike Hasty has volunteered to teach the boys some knots and help them practice.

Saturday evening we will have a flag retirement ceremony. Bring your son's Cub Scout uniform to wear during the ceremony. I have several flags to retire. If you have any flags to retire, bring them with you.

Directions: Sycamore Springs is located in English, Indiana.  You can click on the following link for the Google Map.

If you get into English, IN after me, I will put up the PACK 327 sign where you need to turn left at Church St.  English is a small town.  There will be a gas station/mini-mart where you need to turn. If you cross rail road tracks, you probably passed it.

Camp Card Fundraiser

We are selling Camp Cards again this year. These cards are a great deal. For $5 one gets a number of discounts, for example $5 off $75 at Kroger, $10 off $50 at Dicks, Buy One/Get One Free subs at Penn Station, and more. The Pack keeps $2.50 of each card sold, the other $2.50 helps to cover the local councils expenses. If everyone sold 10 cards that would provide a big boost for the Pack's account; helping to fund training for leaders, supplies, pack meetings, etc. A copy of a Camp Card is included below if you'd like to review what you get.

If you didn't pick up some cards at the Pack meeting (or just need a few more), let me know and I'll get you some to sell (email me or track me down after the 10:30 Mass on Sunday). Take as many cards as you think you can sell, bring the money back to me in May (one check made out to PACK 327 would be helpful to reduce the number of checks that have to be processed).
